The German government, formed following the 26 September 2021
elections, is a tripartite coalition of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP. Being
the second biggest party, the Greens hold the Foreign Ministry, whose head
for the first time is a woman, Annalena Baerbock. What does this new
government mean for Germany’s Turkey policy, the bilateral relations, and
Turkey’s standing within the European Union? How is the new coalition
government viewed in Turkey? Will the rather radical rhetoric of the Greens
be put into practice, or will realpolitik push the new government towards a
continuation of the conciliatory Merkel approach? These are questions to
be addressed in this discussion, roughly 50 days after the German
government was sworn in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
